| Katalox logs (Swartzia cubensis). Pronounced cat-a-low-sh, Katalox is a good example of a wood with a distinct sapwood. The center of the log (the heartwood) is a dark purple, and the outer section (the sapwood) is pale yellowish white. A clever craftsman knows how to incorporate the sapwood into a project, particularly with woods like Katalox that have a high sapwood percentage. |
